During Term 3, we've been learning poetry. We learnt all the different aspects of it and the different writing techniques used in famous poems. I enjoyed writing our own poems, particularly when we had free reign, like the poem you're about to read. I found writing poems based off of others was quite difficult, but I got on with it anyway. I am more competent with writing poetry now, and this is because I've began using different techniques to enhance my poems. The following poem is my favourite poem out of all the ones I wrote. Enjoy.

Running away through the woods.
He wants to bury an axe in my chest.
Glance behind, I see a masked man chasing me.

His mask consists of tribal symbols
And bloodstains from previous
Victims. He is wielding a bloody axe, hoisted up

Over his shoulder like a bindle.
He snarls as I stare at his “face”.
Not looking where I’m going, I trip on a branch.

The man moves in and claims his kill.
Deeming me worthy prey. He laughs

Maniacally and drops his axe into my abdomen.

I chose this poem because I like the overall theme. I also believe I put the techniques I learnt to good use. It''s a poem that reflects my personality and that is why I chose it.

Today Vic Tamiti visited Greymouth High School and at first, I thought it was going to be the same old boring speech from someone I really don't care about. Vic kept my attention longer than most, and one thing I'll remember is how he described being beaten as a child. He mentioned that he caused the death of one his family members, and no doubt, that will plague him for the rest of his life. I recommend he talk to anyone that has been a victim of family violence, because they're the ones that need it.

So much depends
Upon

A social life

Because if it’s used against

It may be

Scary
